Anthony and I returned from South America on Monday. We had such an amazing time! We spent most of the time in Brasil, then a couple days each in Uruguay and Argentina. My favorite was Buenos Aires, which I kind of expected. But I was very pleasantly surprised with Montevideo in Uruguay. It is such a great city! It is small, but vibrant and friendly. The best part is the minister’s name: Creflo Dollars. With a name like Dollars, you know he has to be hiding something. In order to prove and maintain a church’s tax-exempt status, they are required to turn over financial documents proving the donations they receive are used to support lavish lifestyles.
I think it is so ridiculous that churches have tax-exempt status. Way too many use the pulpit for political and personal gain. Think of how much additional government money would come from taxing churches. The money could be used to support low income and homeless people. Things the churches should be doing, rather than creating multi-millionaires. What ever happened to the vow of poverty? I love how this specific ministry preaches that god wants people to have the best in life… yet the majority of these churche’s attendees are impoverished. Maybe they should edit their mission statement to read that they want their ministers to have the best at the hand of the poor.

Anthony and I leave for Brazil in four days!! We are VERY excited. Preparing for my vacation at work has been surprisingly easy so far. I always get nervous that something catastrophic will happen while I am gone… but maybe I have an inflated sense of self importance. =)

Today, I was walking to a meeting amidst the torrential downpour. It stopped suddenly. I looked around and everyone around me went from having a look of irritation to a huge, awe-struck smile. I was sort of nervous… cause everyone had this smile. I turned around to see the most vivid rainbow I have ever seen in my life. This picture doesn’t it do it justice. It was amazing to see it make people so happy. Literally everyone around me stopped and gazed at it.

It snowed in Seattle today. While much of the country is used to this phenomenon, we here in Western Washington are not prepared for this weather. This is a picture from Broadway, where people were excited, yet noticeably unprepared!
