Our Daily Commute

I just read that Vivace’s building is being torn down. While it is just moving, and not completely going away (as is rumored to be B&O’s fate), it still makes me sad. The building - and all surrounding buildings on that block - are being blown away to make way for the lightrail (which I am excited for… cause Seattle needs it). While mass transit is always welcome in this transit-less city, I fear that all the changes in this neighborhood are going to kill it’s uniqueness all together.
I foresee an “urban-suburb” character to this neighborhood. Gone will be the gays, punks, goths, etc. In will be Muffy, Princeton, their two children and their imported, hypo-allergenic labradoodle.

Everyone who lives in King County should register for No Kill King County. On that same note, anyone who is thinking about adopting a pet should adopt from a shelter or rescue. There are so many pets who need a home! We adopted Cheyenne when he was 6 years old from the Whatcom County Humane Society. He has been such a wonderful addition to our family.
Yesterday, on my bus ride home, I had the most annoying bus driver. I think he confused his time with passengers as a slam poetry contest. Rather than announcing stops, he would rhymn and talk about local restuarants and other businesses. And when I say he talked… he talked. Nonstop. The ENTIRE bus ride. Am I a total curmudgeon? Should I allow him to use the microphone as his stage? Or, should he allow his semi-trapped audience what many of us (at least me and two elderly women sitting accross from me) were seaking - a peaceful ride home? I know I could have got off the bus and waited for the next 48, but they come only 2 times an hour.
In other bus news, today Anthony and I rode the 106 downtown. On our way home, this elderly African-American woman got on and began talking with another passenger. Their conversation started out harmless. It ended with her talking about Black salvation and some mysterious sword that was going to kill the white people (because we didn’t make her or the other passenger’s “pockets fat”). She also claimed to be a profit and that the US government was wire tapping her phone for the last 20 years (accept for the 4 years she spent in Israel, of course). This was a rather amusing conversation. Although, when she noticed I was eavesdropping, I became nervous that the “sword” she mentioned would cut me. While I have said, many a time, that sometimes a betch needs to be cut - I hoped that I was not that betch.
An old co-worker sent me some files that she found on their server. I don’t remember saving this picture there, but it is adorable!
Interesting. In the UK, the trans community is embraced. Here we fire them…
Why does this feel so half-hearted?
In today’s Seattle Times, there is an article about Rainier Ave and the many accidents that occur along this main Seattle street. The city and department of transportation are posting billboards that are supposed to dissuade drivers from speeding. There have been more car wrecks and hit pedestrians on this street than any other in Seattle (by far!). While I realize that this is in most part due to speeding and idiots who jay-walk during heavy traffic, perhaps if south Seattle had more than 6 police officers on duty at any given time for roughly 25% of the city, maybe we would see less accidents. Police presence generally causes people to slow down and drive more cautiously (at least while the police are in view). Maybe the city should invest in more police officers rather than waste their money on billboards (that are probably in English and cannot be read by half of south Seattle’s residents).
I don’t really care much that one religious zealot is protesting another religious zealot. My question is, where do the Phelps’ get their money? They are always flying around the country protesting. Their church is made up of other family members, so it isn’t like their donations floweth over.
